About Transportation at GJPS

The transportation of students in the District is a shared responsibility between the parents and the school. Families are responsible for their student to and from the designated bus stop, as well as safety while waiting for school transportation. Appropriate behavior and issuing consequences at a bus stop is shared by the parent and the District. The District is responsible for the safe transportation of the students once they have boarded the bus.

School bus rules are created for the safety and welfare of all riders. The District asks parents to emphasize the importance of obeying bus safety rules with their student. If a student repeatedly defies the rules, putting others safety at risk, they may be denied the privilege of riding the bus. Parental support for behaving appropriately is essential.

Bus routes are on a strict time schedule to accommodate multiple routes. Students should be at the designated stop five minutes earlier than pickup time. Please try not to interrupt the schedule; talking directly with the driver while he or she is in route is discouraged. Bus-related concerns or problems can be addressed by writing a note to the driver or by phoning the Transportation Office at (614) 751-7581.

Your students' bus route for the 2024-25 school year is available on Transfinder. The web-based service provides Gahanna-Jefferson families 24/7 flexibility and access to route information based on their home address!

Be sure to enter only the street number and street name. Do not enter zip code, grades or school. (Entering more than the street number and name may cause inaccurate information to display.)

FAQ Regarding New Routes for 2024-25

What is the reasoning for a change in my bus route?

As a reminder, Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools will have new start and end times at all levels for the 2024-25 school year. Below, you will find the new hours that will take effect on Thursday, August 15, 2024. More information about the new hours of operation for our schools can be found on our GJPS District website.

Preschool AM: 8:30-11:15
Preschool PM: 12:15-3:00
Elementary: 8:05-2:45
High School: 8:35-3:20
Middle School: 9:05-3:50

As part of the new schedule, all of our bus routes have been streamlined for efficiency. Bus stops have been reduced and some of the locations of our bus stops have changed in order to accommodate the new times.

Why did my bus stop move?

Consolidating bus stops saves time and creates efficiency in our routing. Collecting students at one location versus starting and stopping can save minutes in a neighborhood that can accumulate to 10-20 minutes more time on a route. Therefore, increased efficiency provides the opportunity for a decreased average ride time, less reliance on shuttles, and later pick up times.

What is a routing system and how is it beneficial?

The routing system allowed our team to systematically provide efficient routes for all students. The system also feeds a GPS system for our drivers which will improve driver awareness and transportation safety. We will also have increased awareness as to whether routes are running on schedule.

Can I change my bus stop?

Our team will be evaluating bus routes during the first few weeks of school and while we will not add additional bus stops, we may adjust our routes or pick up locations. We used guidance from the state to determine distance to a stop. Changes to bus stops will originate with the transportation office only.

Bus Route Stop/Transfer Request

Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools offers school bus transportation to students at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

To accommodate childcare arrangements or a unique circumstance that may arise during the school year, please complete the School Bus Route/Stop Transfer Request Form. Requests are granted based upon the availability of seating.
